Birding and Wellness 2020-2022

Our main objective is that the beneficiaries of this program improve their quality of life by reducing anxiety and stress, carrying out a physical-cognitive and learning activation that can continue for life; increasing the time and quality of interaction with their closest natural environment and strengthening ties and affective ties with their community, in addition to providing opportunities for economic development in their community through birdwatching.

skill development

We will facilitate a series of activities related to the observation of wild birds, which the beneficiaries will be able to carry out from their home, park or garden and with the collaboration and accompaniment of volunteer mentors from their community.

Building Community

Each of the 43 beneficiaries (young children and adults) associated with 4 community centers and conservation projects in the Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas region:

Direct support to beneficiaries

Each participant will receive a "birder's kit" consisting of: 1 pair of binoculars (inexpensive, good quality), 1 quick bird identification guide for Banderas Bay, 1 wildlife guide, 1 board game (to choose between three different games)

Environmental and social commitment

With this project we seek to evaluate the benefits of bird watching for human health, so it is very important that the participants carry out each of the program's activities in order to guarantee that our project is successful and that ideally we can continue to replicate it with new community centers and conservation areas.

ACTIVITY 2: LEARNING THE TOPOGRAPHY OF A BIRD

All of these names are known as "Bird Topography" and help us accurately identify and describe the birds we observe. They also help us to better interpret the descriptions of birds in our field guides or mobile applications and even learn to distinguish the characteristic features of each bird species by name.

Hence the importance that we all try to use these names that are an essential part of the language among bird watchers. Practicing them allows us to move quickly in the development of our skills.

Why is it important to have a code of ethics when we go birding?
